End to power outages in Battagram demanded - Newspaper ... - DAWN.com

BATTAGRAM: Political and social activists have convened a jirga here on July 24 to chalk out a future line of action against excessive electricity loadshedding in Battagram, and asking the authorities to supply the district with power from the Allai Khwar hydel power station.

The jirga will also ask people to pay electricity dues and remove illegal connections.

Former tehsil nazims Khanzada Zafar Ali Khan and Niaz Khan Trand, chairman Tehreek Inqilab political movement Naeem Shaheen, Mahajareen Khan, Niaz Khan Thakot, Saeed Ahmed Malkal, Maulana Qari Idrees, Ghulamullah and others appealed to the youth organisations and local leadership of political parties to participate in the 'Roshan Battagram Jirga' to be held in the Chinar Park.

They said the local elders had held several meetings with Peshawar Electric Supply Company officials and the district administration to relax the loadsheddng schedule, but the officials' 'non-serious' attitude had left them with no option other than to call a jirga.

They claimed that they wanted to help Pesco discontinue illegal connections and recover power dues, but the power utility had resorted to indiscriminate loadshedding instead.

They said the jirga would take strict action against those using electricity illegally.
