Columbus police warn about mail theft after business’ $37K check stolen from mailbox - WSB Atlanta
COLUMBUS, Ga. — The Columbus Police Department's Financial Crimes Unit is looking for help from the public to identify a man suspected of stealing mail.
According to police, on Oct. 18, 2022, workers at Whitewater Realty in Columbus reported the company's mail was stolen out of a public mailbox.
A check for $37,000 was one of the items stolen.

The investigation led to locating the check, which had been "washed" and altered, then deposited at a Bank of America ATM in Stonecrest, Georgia on Sept. 21, 2022.
