There is about to be a seismic political change from the left to the right - JNS.org

Image
(October 31, 2022 / JNS) King Solomon said, "A wise man's mind (tends) to his right; while a fool's mind (tends) to his left." The world is about to experience a seismic political shift from the left to the right. It all starts on Nov. 1 when Israel holds its fifth election in four years. Current polls give Benjamin Netanyahu the highest number of seats in the Knesset. However, it remains to be seen if he will be able to cobble together a governing coalition of 61 seats. My feeling is that Netanyahu will manage it. But he will need the support of the religious parties, including the Religious Zionist Party led by Bezalel Smotrich. The Religious Zionist Party has come of age. Its participation in government will not be the apocalypse that Yossi Klein Halevi predicted in an article entitled, "The War on Israeli Modernity." Benjamin Netanyahu has been very adept at juggling the parties to his right. Over 15 years as prime minister of Israel, he be

Rebekah Jones whistleblower closure letter authenticity questioned - Pensacola News Journal

Image
Democratic congressional candidate Rebekah Jones posted a copy of a letter from the Florida Human Relations Commission this week that appears altered from the version on file with the state agency. Last month, the commission closed its investigation into Jones' whistleblower complaint against the Florida Department of Health. The commission notified her with a mailed letter stating there was not a "reasonable cause" for Jones' allegations of retaliation against FDOH. Election: Rebekah Jones wins Democratic primary, will take on Matt Gaetz for U.S. House seat Florida DOH computer crime charges: Rebekah Jones turns down plea deal On Sept. 19, Jones posted the news on her campaign website that her whistleblower complaint had been officially closed. In a video, Jones repeatedly said she "demonstrated" a violation had occurred. "The investigation looked at two points, the legitimacy of my complaint itself, and whe

Bucks' byways besmirched by billboards for political candidates - The Intelligencer

Image
By Rich Seidner  |  The Intelligencer Around August of every year the beautiful byways of Bucks County become scarred with signs from candidates for political office. At most intersections, whether they be major highways, or back country roads, you typically find upwards of 30-40 or more political signs stuck in the ground, promoting candidates from each party. An abundance of wasteful plastic signs for one candidate next to other wasteful plastic signs for the other candidate. In the 21st century, a time when we are all digitally inundated every day on our phone apps, texts, email accounts, and television, by political ads and solicitations for campaign contributions, isn't it really time that we get rid of these plastic eyesores? Seriously, how many voters are making their decision on which candidate to vote for while sitting at an intersection's red light, surrounded by political signs? Hopefully, the answer to that question is none. Every intersection, r

Emphasis on bringing remittance through legal channels - Prothom Alo English

Image
Speakers made these observations at a roundtable titled 'Remittance via legal channels: possibilities of digital mediums', organised by Prothom Alo. The roundtable was held at Prothiom Alo's office in capital's Karwan Bazar area on Thursday. Former executive director of Bangladesh Bank and former deputy head of Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) Mahfuzur Rahman said that expatriates won't be interested in sending remittance through legal ways if there's a big difference between the dollar exchange rates of legal and illegal channels. Besides, if attractive investment schemes can be made, it will increase the flow of remittance through legal channels. Lila Rashid, another former executive director of Bangladesh Bank said legal and illegal channels are competing in fetching remittance. Speedy service, at what cost and with how much confidentiality it reaches the customer are significantly vital in this case. She said, if remittance arrives through illeg

On distrust and media bias: Why these young voters are disillusioned with the political process - WUSF News

Image
As part of our Democracy 2022 coverage, WUSF Public Media asked our audience to share their thoughts on the election and the democratic process. Earlier this month, WUSF held a listening session with young voters on the St. Petersburg campus of the University of South Florida. Two of those young voters shared their thoughts with Matthew Peddie on a recent episode of Florida Matters. ALSO READ: Young voters rely on social media for their news. How will this play out in the 2022 elections? The two St. Petersburg College students — Adam and Stephanie, who only asked to be identified by their first names — talked about voting issues that matter to them. The overarching theme: The lack of trust in both politicians and the media, what it will take to regain their trust, and the role social media plays in informing their decisions. Adam, 29, says he's been voting since 2011. He says he hasn't missed an election. Stephanie has been voting for the last six years, after turning 18. Here

How a GameFAQs Board Became a Refuge for the Brokenhearted - EGMNOW

Image
"What does it mean when a girl takes your phone out of your pocket?" That's the main topic of a thread started by someone only known as Ratt_Poison. Though it's admittedly a strange situation—a coworker to take your phone out of your back pocket for no discernible reason—the scant responses are hardly helpful. "She was deciding whether or not to rob you," a user named Wildspark offers. "If you have to ask the question you will never understand the answer," OmegaRelentless writes. Another thread from user Perry_Tanko contains a poll: "Would you date a girl who is 'crazy?'" The poll results are split evenly down the middle. You may think these threads come from a dating site forum or an old AOL chatroom, but you'd be wrong. This is the GameFAQs board for Mad Stalker: Full Metal Force , a mecha beat-em-up for the Turbo CD. GameFAQs has been a home for video game walkthroughs and tips sinc

What Happened to Hu Jintao at China’s Congress? - The New York Times

Image
It was the lone disruption in one of the most closely choreographed events in China: The country's former top leader, Hu Jintao, was suddenly led out of the closing ceremony of the Chinese Communist Party's twice-a-decade congress. The congress, where China's next leaders are anointed, is the single most important political event for a ruling party fixated on control. Every detail, whether it is the outcome of its elections or how servers pour tea, is planned . Nothing unscripted happens. Nothing unscripted is allowed to happen. Except this year, it did. The roughly 2,000 delegates to the congress had just cast ballots for the party's prestigious Central Committee. Then, two men led Mr. Hu — who appeared reluctant to go — out of Beijing's Great Hall of the People. The moment, captured on video by journalists who had been allowed into the hall minutes earlier, prompted questions and wild speculation. Was Mr. H
